Every January, we’re handed a shiny new slate—and with it, the pressure to reinvent ourselves. The resolution lists get long, and so does the list of expectations. But a couple of years ago, I quietly decided to take a different approach.
Instead of setting resolutions, I began building rhythms.
Not big, bold declarations. Just small, intentional practices.
It started simply: a five-minute bodyweight workout each day. Nothing fancy. No pressure to “go hard.” Just a rhythm—a gentle reminder to show up for myself.
That rhythm slowly turned into a habit. And that habit eventually grew into a lifestyle. Today, I’m stronger, healthier, and more consistent in movement than I’ve ever been—not because I changed overnight, but because I stayed in rhythm.
The same happened in other areas of my life, too. A desire to care for my body led me to shift how I eat—not through restriction or guilt, but through nourishment. Less processed sugar. More whole foods. More energy.
And my favorite rhythm of all? Daily Bible reading. It started as a few verses with coffee in the morning. That rhythm grew. Over the past two years, I’ve read through the entire Bible three times—not because of a resolution, but because of a small daily rhythm that shaped my heart and my habits.
Rhythms don’t ask us to transform overnight. They invite us to be faithful in the small.
Yes, the first steps are sometimes the hardest. But I’ve found that consistency has a way of softening the resistance. The more you show up, the more natural it feels. The rhythm begins to carry you.
💡 If you’re standing at the start of a new year, feeling overwhelmed by all the “shoulds,” I want to gently offer this:
You don’t need a resolution.
You need a rhythm.
Start small. Let your habits grow with you.
That’s the heart behind the Habit Tracker Workbook I created—it’s a tool that helps you stay consistent, track gentle progress, and grow your own life-giving rhythms. If you’re looking for a fresh, grace-filled start this season, it’s a beautiful place to begin.
No matter what you’re building this year—whether it’s strength, nourishment, or spiritual depth—may your rhythms be rooted in grace, not pressure. May they lead you not to burnout, but to transformation.
You don’t need to overhaul your life.
You just need a rhythm that moves with you.
